What a mouthful! Ever since the Marvel initiative with their cinematic universe every film studio wanted to get in on the money making.
However, a cinematic universe only works when a studio actually has many characters and their worlds to play upon. That is where most ideas fail. Sony even tried to make a cinematic universe with one character, Spider-man. And man were they cocky! After the first amazing spider-man film they announced 3 sequels and 2 spin-offs. Now with 2 amazing spider-man films out I am sad to say they suck. That is what you get biting off more than they could chew, and trying to make a cinematic universe with only 1 character. But I have hope for one property that I believe will be either as big or bigger than the marvel universe (prob not but I can dream) and that is the Universal Classic Monster Cinematic Universe (UCMCU).
The reason I think this will do amazingly is because the monster movies were basically already in a shared universe. Each film was based int he real world, we dreamed of films where they would pit each monster against each other and they duke it out. And they did, numerous times! Films like Frankenstein meets the Wolfman, House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula, even Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein/ Invisible man/ and the mummy! Granted a lot of the monster remakes were bad I still have hope that they will be good. Especially since Dracula Untold went down the tragic monster route again and not the blood is everything to make a monster badass route like many many films in the recent past.
Now the new monster universe wont be coming until 2016, but I can't wait because the movie kicking it off will be The Mummy being released in June 24, 2016. So have you heard of this shared universe? Are you excited to see this?
