In the thrilling next volume of the Invisible Man series another man takes the mantle in this much deserved sequel that takes it to the next level.
If you already read my post about the first Invisible Man then you know that I wasn't too thrilled about it, however I can honestly say that this was a huge improvement from the first. For starters a new actor filled the shoes Claude Rains left behind and did an equally superb job at that. That man is Vincent Price! Man what a voice, exchange one actor with such a distinctive voice for another. Like Rains,Vincent didn't appear on screen until the very end, but throughout the film he portrayed what was going on to his mind perfectly through his voice alone.
The story also had an upgrade. Instead of the man already being invisible and already crazy from the drug, this film really showed the process and the toll that the drug will take on you. When he recently turned invisible and had anger fits around the woman he loves he stopped himself and kept apologizing to her. We got to see his descent into madness and eventually he thought of himself as a god! The fact that they went into this detail on a character really impresses me, it also helped that the movie was well paced.
Like the first film this one had great special effects, if not better. Although near the end the effects started to show for some reason. I'm not sure if they were rushing and didn't notice or someone had to fill in as special effects guy, but near the end you just started seeing wires everywhere. Wires on the gun, wires on the man to pull him back, I'm quite surprised no one stopped them and said they needed to fix it.
I really liked how the police really stepped up their game here and weren't bumbling buffoons. They were actually smart and almost caught the invisible man. They used really cool smoke that would reveal him and its a blast watching the invisible man walk through it. They did something similar with the rain revealing him. Overall this film really pushed the invisible man to new heights and with Vincent Price and the other actors, the film really pulled through as a solid second installment.
RECOMMENDATION: Medium/High
