You want to watch a mummy movie where the mummy is actually in bandages the whole time? Well at least you got that in this.
Honestly watching the second movie in the mummy franchise I'm quite disappointed in this creature. As a kid I watched more Mummy movies (usually the 90s remake) and they scared me. Very imaginative, but the classic mummy seems a little lack luster.
They definitely stepped up their mummy make up in this second installment. Although instead of a sequel this is more like a remake, re-filming the flashback scenes with the new mummy actor. With the acceptance of the bulky bandages the face make up is really good. He looks old, he looks dried out, his eyes look dead and hollow, the only gripe I have with his face is that we can still see his hair.
The human characters are a step up from the last film, only that they are more interesting. There is a character who has a good luck doll that has a Costello-esque comedy routine about him. They actually had a magician as a character! I really liked that, but for him to finance a dig? However, the film did have a very strong female lead that I didn't hate! But sort of goes back to the girly girl trope by the end, being hitched with the main male lead.
This film didn't really have many deaths compared to the last one. Boris Karloff killed so many people in that film, I think this one was maybe two deaths. I noticed that the later films are closer to an hour long so I'm not exactly sure what to expect from them, but I would really like to know what other people who saw this thought? Did you like this film? Which is your favorite mummy movie?
RECOMMENDATION: Medium
