Let the Right One In

The original Swedish Movie! Seriously, you got to watch this.
Vampires, blood, and bullies. This amazing film will have you on the edge on your mind as it travels through the relationship between two kids growing up with vampirism and bullies. This film is based off the book by the same name (and even written by the author of the book) and it has so much to offer that every time you watch it you notice something new that just makes you smile about it.
Yes the main actors are kids (they are 12 just like their characters) but the director was able to really bring out their performances. You feel so much from these two kids as they go through hardships and try to find happiness. At the heart of the movie is the relationship between Eli and Oscar. You get to see that relationship bloom throughout the movie and it's really touching. By the end you just want to go with them and experience their journey.
Since it is a vampire movie there is tons of blood, okay not tons but the perfect amount to really show in this film. Not only that but it has some grotesque scenes with one of the characters has to disfigure his face so that they wont trace him back to the vampire. (On a side note there is a cute scene of a poodle licking a guys blood). Almost all of the film was shot on location, and outside. The shots are beautiful and offer so much to the film. They even (the cinematographer and the director) invented a new technique for cinematography called "Spray Light" for Eli's apartment scenes.

There is so many amazing things going on in this film. On the surface is the story and the relationship of the characters, but if you really analyze the film you can find some pretty cool stuff. One of the cool things you can see (and I promise this is the only one I'll talk about so that I'm not gushing over it and spoiling people) is that at the beginning of the film Oscar is a very introverted boy. He liked to be by himself and wasn't that good around other people. At the first time he met Eli he was kind of hiding his face and body from her, As the story progresses you can tell that Oscar is getting more confidant and with his increasing confidence the two leads get closer and closer to really looking at each other until finally after a very satisfying horror scene Eli and Oscar actually look at each other on eye level. I would dare to say that this film is an art film, because the more I look into it the more it feels like it. If you ever watched a vampire movie and thought "this is so cheesy" or "I've seen this a million times" go watch this. There is nothing new added to the vampire lore, but it is an amazing ride that everyone should experience. And if your really interested to get into the gritty dirty details check out the Book Here.
