King Kong

What a picture! What a picture! Many people will recognize this icon. One of the great giant monsters, this gigantic ape will mesmerize you in his awesomeness. Creating a world wide franchise of sequels, remakes, and coming up a spin-off this is the prime example of why you always stick with the classics.
Granted that this film does start off a little slow, it quickly picks up once they arrive on the island. I love the fact that they decided to use a character that is a film director to really push these characters into those awful situations. He just gotta have that shot! All the male characters are great, you start to get to know them on their heroic, if not egotistical, journey while the main female lead is really only there to scream. She does fill her part as "beauty" for Kong's storyline, but ultimately she doesn't bring much more to the character. I don't feel that she is really in danger, nor do I care if Kong suddenly decides to eat her.
But with those few things that are really nit-picks, this film is nearly flawless. It's amazing that a film that is 81 years old (wow Happy birthday Kong!) still makes me sit on the edge of my seat in all the fantastic action. If for nothing else watch this movie solely based on the stop motion animation. Someone doesn't like black and white movies? Someone thinks movies this old are stupid? Sit them down and make them watch Kong do amazing feats as he battles his way through the island really showing us why he is the king! Seriously this stop motion is near god level. It is 99.99% smooth. So smooth that it really boggles the mind on how long they really spent creating these intense action scenes that would make the people of 1933 stunned and awed.
Overall I have to say that this is one of those films that everybody needs to see. The story is solid and super amazing, the effects were great and will blow the mind of any generation in any time. Kong really raised the stakes in monster films, especially giant monster films. This is a great movie to buy and I'd suggest buying a special collector's set or something so that you can get all the goodies in the special features.

RECOMMENDATION: High
